Spark Creative Writing Competition two women writing in notebooks

In conjunction with a group of dedicated Sutherland Shire high school teachers, FAW proudly presents the Spark Creative Writing Competition for young writers in the Sutherland Shire.

The competition was started in 2016 to SPARK creativity and imagination, as well as give young writers an opportunity to develop and showcase their creative skills.

All Sutherland Shire high school students from Year 7 to Year 12 are invited to enter.

Students are given a specific theme and a photographic stimulus to prompt their writing.

​$1000 in prize money is split between Junior and Senior categories.

2022 spark competition winners

The winners of the 2022 SPARK creative writing competition for High School students, were announced at the 2022 Writers Unleashed Festival on Saturday 3 September 2022 at Tradies, Gymea.

Place-getters and their families were treated to a special morning tea before the winners were awarded their certificates by members of Sutherland FAW. Huge congratulations to the winners and highly commended entries!

Seniors Category Winners:

Leo Chau 3rd place, Luke Zeng 1st place, Cate Chapman, 2nd place (pictured back row, left to right)

Junior Category Winners:

Charlotte Eccleson 2nd place, Grace O’Brien 3rd place, Amelia Gray, Highly commended (pictured front row, left to right)
